This is the use of medication to help patients relax during dental procedures. There are levels of sedations: minimal sedation (awake but relaxed, also known as laughing gas), moderate sedation ( slurring of words when speaking and may not remember much of the procedure), deep sedation ( on the edge of consciousness but can be awakened), general anesthesia ( completely unconscious). In addition to the sedation, the dentist will also administer a numbing medication at the site of work. This is to help relieve pain during the procedure.
